Blonde, beautiful, beaten to death with a blacksmith's hammer. The Smith has returned, leaving a new trail of gruesome serial murders across Manhattan.

Gavin Gregory, an FBI agent who profiles serial killers for the Behavioral Analysis Unit, couldn't capture The Smith the first time around and wants a second stab at catching the killer. The case takes a bizarre turn when Debra Esteves, a psychiatrist from a New York mental hospital, says she knows The Smith's identity.

Esteves spins a tale of disturbing horror from her past, claiming The Smith controlled one of her patients through his psychic influence. But Gavin considers himself a rational man. He believes in science over superstition, and rejects her version of events.

2021 Readers' Favorite Award Gold Medal for Supernatural Fiction!

"Vick masters the balance between external and internal stakes as an abundance of characters bring this gritty murder suspense to life."

"Vick (The Bloodletter Chronicles) weaves a suspenseful web of gore and horror in this supernatural thriller. Special Agent Gavin Gregory of the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit is about to take an extended vacation to rebuild his marriage when a notorious serial killer known as The Smith resurfaces from a killing-spree hiatus. Gavin knows this killer well and is put on the case, but quickly discovers he’s in over his head. Enter Deborah Esteves, a psychiatrist who treated The Smith in 2014 and has developed some surprising theories about the eerie psychic phenomena that may have complicated her past work with violent patients. With Deborah’s help, Gavin must catch the killer before the killer catches another victim.

Vick masters the balance between external and internal stakes as an abundance of characters bring this gritty murder suspense to life. The events unfold along three timelines—2004, 2014, and the present—with the narrative gracefully crossing between them while delving deep into The Smith’s psychological unraveling. Some readers might find keeping track of the large cast frustrating, especially with the regular point-of-view shifts, but the skillfully crafted internal struggles of key characters create an emotional and sympathetic connection that will keep fans engaged and flipping the pages. Foreboding hints of the supernatural loom from start to finish, certain to delight both horror and thriller enthusiasts.

Vick is a seasoned writer who doesn’t hold back. His opening line (“The alley stank of garbage and human waste and blood and imminent death”) demonstrates his ability to evoke the senses and paint a visceral scene -- and alerts readers that the story to come contains a fair amount of gore and disturbing images. The well-crafted plot, memorable characters, and decidedly wicked villain will linger long after the last page is turned. Those looking for an engrossing supernatural thriller containing high stakes will find much to enjoy."

"Are you a fan of movies like Zodiac or The Silence of the Lambs? Do you find books exploring the psyche of serial killers to be fascinating?"

"If the answer is yes, then grab your copy of Wrath Child, a supernatural suspense thriller by author Erik Henry Vick... Combining murder mystery with elements from preternatural horror, Wrath Child is a riveting suspense thriller by Erik Henry Vick. With the narrative switching between three different timelines, author Erik Henry Vick has created a mind-bending puzzle box of a novel that refuses to let you go and holds onto your attention from the first page to the last. The multiple POVs and the choice of using non-linear storytelling lend strength to the narrative and make it all the more compelling. The characters are engaging, and the action scenes are brutal and described in vivid detail. To cap off, Wrath Child is one of the best supernatural thrillers I've read in recent years, and I would highly recommend it to fans of the genre."

"... not your run-of-the-mill thriller."

"Wrath Child: A Supernatural Thriller by Erik Henry Vick is a disturbing, yet spellbinding story that appeals to fans of horror and mystery. Erik Henry Vick’s novel is not your run-of-the-mill thriller, but a story that has shades of mystery, paranormal, crime, and horror. It is deftly plotted with unexpected twists that I never anticipated when I started reading. The characters are well-developed, especially the protagonist. Gavin is an intelligent and skilled profiler, a man who believes in science and who trusts his rational mind. Everything changes when a new case challenges everything he knows. This character is so real I got interested in him right away, and I found myself worried for him as the conflict got complicated. Wrath Child: A Supernatural Thriller is psychologically rich, written with interesting details and scenes that put readers on the edge of their seats. It is an enjoyable read with great writing."

Not To Be Read At Night

"INCREDIBLY well written.
IMMENSELY frightening.
Most probably the best book I'll read this year!!!"

Great Horror book from a great Horror writer!

"It's so great to finally read an ACTUAL HORROR book and not some sub-genrefied Werewolf M.C or I married a Vampire Biker.
The saying, "you shouldn't judge a book by the cover", has no merit here. Just look at the cover, that is exactly what the book is about....It does exactly what it says on the tin....to quote a famous advertisement.
In this new novel from one of the best Horror (with a capital H) writers of this generation, a serial killer seems to have resurfaced after a long period of hibernation....or is that what has really happened?
FBI send an agent to investigate and similarities in a current spate of grisly murders, to ascertain if the serial killer has returned and it only gets more intriguing as he looks at the evidence.
A really great page turner and a riveting read, I highly recommend it for Horror (with a capital H) fans.!"

Great book, good series and best of all MrVick has many more books to read!

"This book was awesome! Mr Vick is on top of his game!"

Non stop mind trip

"What an awesome book. Non stop can't put this book down. What do you do when a man shows up at your precinct and tells you he's responsible for killing your daughter. Is he the real thing or just some mentally disturbed individual? This rollercoaster ride of horror, murder and mental anguish is a top notch book by Erik Henry Vick."

Creepy, Intense, and extremely well written!

"This book has what most "horror" books today lack - it is both creepy and intense. An FBI agent caught up in a case that traces back to an old cold case. What he uncovers is unbelievable until it he can no longer deny the similarities.
This is the best book Erik has ever put to paper!"

Another phenomenal hit!

"Wrath Child by Erik Henry Vick is a phenomenal hit! This is what horror and suspense is all about. Filled with twists and turns, murders, psychosis, adventure and suspense, this novel will keep you up reading all night under the covers. The string of murders was astounding and I applaud the author for being able to keep them straight. Same with the general timelines of the book. The characters are very well written and enjoyable. Kudos Mr. Vick for another truly excellent novel!”

Believe the impossible when nothing else is left

"This book has stories within the story. An FBI agent named Gavin is investigating a series of murders. And is told an unbelievable tale, spanning through different timelines and characters. These layers keep you guessing throughout, who is the killer? It was impossible to put down. A little bit of the mystery gets revealed at a time creating perfect suspense. Terrifying and unforgettable, plot."

Alley near Third and 36th, Manhattan, NY
Tuesday, 3:33 am

The alley stank of garbage and human waste and blood and imminent death. His nose filled with the amalgam of odors, and his nostrils flared wide to drink in even more of the heady cocktail’s reek. The thunderstorm overhead brought some New England mill town or other to mind—full of chemicals, soot, and opportunity. He unwound from hunching over the girl, throwing his arms up and back, turning his face toward the bruised sky and letting the rain patter down on him. His face twisted with an ungentle smile as the bloody lump of flesh at his feet moaned, and his fingers curled into cruel claws at his side. Lightning flickered and danced from cloud to cloud, its brilliance, and the slimy rain with its acrid, soured egg smell, momentarily blinding him. His eyelids fluttered against the rain, against the bitter longing, against the feeling, the compulsion, the demanding presence, but he resisted dropping his head forward so he could look upon her. Peals of thunder ruined his ears, commanding more blood and depravity. Yet he waited, stretching out the moment, stretching his anticipation.

Oh, he knew what he would see. What he would see in her eyes as the realization struck her—about two seconds before the hammer struck her… He knew what he would see, but still, he forced himself to wait, drawing out the feeling, letting the rush build and build and build.

Thunder raged above him, and the dark passenger within him ranted and raved and prayed and pleaded. But none of it could command him to action, none of it could inspire fear or pleasure or anger or…any emotion within him.

Lightning sizzled across the sky, dazzling him, and at his feet, the woman moaned. Almost time, he said to that presence within. Will you watch this time? Or will it again be too much for you?

He didn’t bother to listen to the inane answers, as he knew that by this time in the evening, the events and demands of the hunt had rendered his passenger into a shivering mess of jabbering pleas, jibbering demands, and rasping threats. All of it summed to exactly nothing to him. Taunting his passenger amounted to no more than an appetizer.
