Erik and I have been together twenty years but I noticed something new about him this year. He has had a lot of doctor visits so far this year and I needed to accompany him to all of them. Whether it was a scan, a blood draw, a regular doctor visit or physical therapy, one thing was the same in all of the visits for all of the people that Erik interacted with. He made them smile. He would make a joke or they’d notice one of his funny t-shirts. He has a way of putting people at ease and in a good mood. I don’t share this skill but I wish I did.
