The Lighter Side

March 3, 2019

Life at our house has been upside down lately with Erik’s hip situation but there’s still room for a smile and a chuckle here and there.

I snapped the picture above the other day when I found how the dog left his toys. He has been leaving them in the middle of the floor and in the path of the wheelchair, but he has also apparently been working on his Yiddish. Oy Vey!

Erik has had to resort to sleeping in the La-Z-Boy but we tried a bunch of different things before that to let him sleep in the bed. I went to Home Depot and got plywood so we could remove our box springs and make the bed shorter (a two-hour fiasco that resulted in renting a truck with the bed full of snow). We also tried switching sides of the bed. We have slept on the same sides of the bed for twenty years, so it was a big deal. The first night I dreamt some crazy other-worldly stuff and now I know why we never switched before. He has been hoarding the creative side of the bed. If I had slept there sooner, maybe I’d be the fantasy author.

I didn’t have much in the way of New Year’s Resolutions this year, but I did want to do better than last year on step count and strengthen my core. Well for the month of February, I was up almost 1000 steps on my daily average! Erik has had some pretty bad muscle spasms that were helped by me massaging his leg. It turns out that you use a lot of muscles in your back, shoulders and arms that way. I’ll be fit in no time!

Thanks everyone for all your support and kind words throughout this difficult time!

About Hank and Jane IRL

I asked Supergirl if she would write a few blog posts about our real lives. We’re calling it Hank and Jane IRL, and if you don’t get the Hank and Jane reference, you need to read the Blood of the Isir series. 🙂
